4 Tips for Making Small Business Saturday a Success

When it comes to planning, we all strive to plan ahead, but that doesn’t always happen. Nothing amps up your motivation quite like waiting until the last minute, right?

4 Tips for Making Small Business Saturday a Success

Did you realize that the Small Business Saturday annual holiday is only 2 weeks away? We know small businesses are the backbone of our economy and we're here to help your business thrive. Whether you've been planning all year, or only started in the last month, we have a few last-minute tips for small business owners to help your business maximize sales this holiday.

Tip 1: Reach Customers through Promotions and Advertisements

Where do your customers learn about local businesses, events and promotions? Perhaps it's on social media, a community website, or in a newspaper. Promote your business prior to the holiday. This generates awareness for your store and customers can add you to their holiday shopping list. Does your business have an email? Add that into your promotion plan too. Sharing content on social media with the #SmallBusinessSaturday and #ShopSmall hashtags is a must. Start doing this now, if you haven't already.

Tip 2: Plan Your Deals and Discounts

As you know, Small Business Saturday falls between Black Friday and Cyber Monday and many larger stores have started their deals early. The competition is fierce, so make yourself stand out by planning deals and discounts that will motivate your customers. While larger discounts may appeal to new customers, don't forget about your existing customers. They are your bread and butter, and you should always be thinking of ways that you can encourage them to return to your store. Lastly, 2020 has been a financially challenging year for all small businesses, so ensure your business can afford the discount.

Tip 3: Offer Safe, Contactless Shopping Solutions

Your customers need to feel safe, or they are less likely to shop in your store. Clearly explain all your safety procedures on signs in your store, on your website, social media pages and anywhere else you see fit. If possible, make services like curbside pickup and/or contactless delivery available. Are you considering having an in-person event that day? Crowds are still concerning to many people, so a virtual event might be the way to go. If you go the virtual event route, get creative by hosting a raffle, auction or another fun initiative.

Tip 4: Team Up for Success

Is there a local business that offers products or services that could be complementary to what your small business offers? Consider reaching out to them about a potential partnership to provide a special offer or discount to customers. Offering discounts at both of your stores gives customers more reasons to shop locally in your area, and who doesn’t love 2 deals? Partnering with a local charity to give back to their organization is another great idea, especially during the holiday season. Not only will these ideas help promote your local businesses and non-profits, but they also help you build relationships.
